Review of Elephant (2003) by Mohamed F — 18 Jul 2010
Once again I was tricked by Cannes into watching a BAD movie just because it received a Palm D'or for political/social reasons.
The script was just terrible, sometimes it felt like a blown up script for a short film, and a steadicam following a bunch of teenagers who wander through the hallways of their high school, and characters I didn't know well enough to sympathize with later on, not even the boys who do the shooting... this movie was a freaking mess!
The festival gives Gus Van Sant a Best Director prize for this pile of steaming mess, and even give that mess a Palm D'or, it makes me feel like there's something wrong with me, which isn't, so...
Oh, and by the way, what does the title have to do with the movie, seriously?
