Review of Elephant (2003) by Shantel D — 28 Jan 2011
Elephant is a story that takes up subjects such as homosexuality, bullying and eating disorders. Having heard that this movie was similar to 2:37 I really wanted to see it.
Elephant was the first one out of the two to be made, but I still prefered the latter. 2:37 is a movie where the problems are bigger and easier to understand, the acting is better and it was easier to sympathise with the characters in that movie.
In Elephant it was different though. The acting was worse and the problems weren't as obvious which is why I couldn't quite sympathise with the characters since I didn't exactly know what they were going through.
The directing was amazing but the movie in general was really slow. Then when we came to the end I didn't find it as harsh and terrible as everyone else seems to think. Too much happened all at once that I found it unrealistic, it was a predictable ending where you'd expected exactly that ending from the very beginning and when it came you just felt emptiness. You didn't feel sorry for anyone, you were just happy that the movie's end was about to arrive soon...
