Review of Elephant (1993) by Ayman S — 26 Sep 2009
How mundane can you make a movie and still be powerful? The movie, I feel, deconstructs our romances with violence, stereitypical teen angst and easy answers the media dickers over regarding school violence.
The movie can be summarized in a scene towards the end. Two boys look over a map warmovie style talking about impending carnage that they will cause while the director cuts to those scenes. Then the boys get in a car and drive the speed limit to school creating one of moviedoms biggest anti-climaxes.
Senseless violence and brilliant movie making.
