Review of Elephant (1993) by Paul M — 05 Aug 2013
Jesus, this was a hard movie to watch. it took me a while to just get over the upset stomach I had, not for the violence (though it definitely has its share) but for the way they told the film. lets get one thing straight, no matter how much we see anti war movies, there's still the excitement of the violence.
it can really get your heart pumping. but with Elephant, it sucks out the excitement by making it slow with long tracking shots. without any excitement, we're left with just an uncaring feel we give the film.
and once the shooting does start, we're horrified. we don't look at it as a movie, we look at it as if we're here to observe this horror. it pains us, and it makes no exceptions for the audiences.
it offers no mercy. we want to stop watching, but we're glued to our seats watching such an unforgivable crime. though provoking. its a great film. but one I would not like to see again.
