Review of Elektra Luxx (2011) by Jared M — 15 Apr 2011

As a follow up to Women in trouble, this is a lot of fun.

This sequel plays out in very much the same style as its predecessor and makes good use of its terrific casting. Whilst the tone is a little more contemplative, I really enjoyed hanging out with these characters again.

Up front Carla Gugino is terrific as always, playing Elektra at a crossroads in her life and dealing with impending motherhood. Projecting strength on the outside whilst struggling inside, she makes Elektra an intriguing character to follow. It was also great to see Palicki return as Holly Rocket the seemingly oblivious yet absolutely hilarious friend. Wide eyed and child like, she is very funny here. This films secret weapon however is Joseph Gordon-Levitt's porn blogger Burt Rodriguez, the guy is hilarious as we watch him chronicling the life and times of Elektra whilst falling apart at the thought of her retirement from the industry. His scenes with her at the book signing had me in stitches. Such a great character.

Overall, this feels like the indies we used to get during the 90's and I for one am really appreciative that there are still flicks like this being made.
