One of the best films of 1999, and one of the greatest dark comedies ever made. The writing is absolutely brilliant and ironic, and it's a hilarious comic tragedy with great performances. Reese Witherspoon is perfect, and Chris Klein is surprisingly good as the only good-natured character in the film.
It's fun and painful watching these unlikeable people pursue happiness. Oh yeah, it was filmed in my hometown.
