Review of Election (2005) by Amber V — 06 Jan 2013
Brilliant black comedy. I loved that this wasnt a movie about high school. At all. High school mainly provided the setting for a story about these individuals' personalities and their different approaches and outlooks on life.
I'm amazed at how well the story manages to be hilarious, exasperating, and thought-provoking at the same time. They hit the nail on the head with the casting of Witherspoon for this role. Nuanced, and just excellent.
Many times I didn't know if I wanted to punch her, laugh, or feel sorry for her. Matthew, the crush of my early teenage years (Ferris!!!), was equally terrific. Props to Chris Klein's naive, happy-go-lucky Paul.
Everything about this movie is just amazing, funny, and many times touching. Seen it more than once.
