Review of Election 2 (2006) by Chris S — 25 Oct 2007
An interesting sequel. I still admire Johnny To's maturity in his direction; none of the parts come off as cheesy like his earlier gangster films. Much of the dark tone from the original movie is kept and it's really neat to see everyone from the first movie make appearances and interact with these new set of events. And Simon Yam is still chilling in his role as Lok.
However, I only have a few complaints. One is that it takes a while to pick up and (like the first movie) probably requires a few more viewings before I can truly appreciate it. That and I was disappointed that most of the original soundtrack from the first movie was changed, because in my opinion that was one of the most unique features of the original.
Either way, it's a good sequel to a great film. Recommended.
