Blows the dust off the musty, old genre of gang movies, "Triad" is interesting because it makes the point that just because there is democracy, that doesn't mean that things are going to be easy, or less violent.
The gore is nauseating, and proves a point to the power of desperation. The sword play seems a little off, and there are points in the first act where the dialogue is fast, and the action is slow, so I'm left feeling watching nothing; but it really picks up, to disturbing levels.
