Johnny To crafts an emotionally complex study of greed and the erosion of tradition, drenched in shadow and blood. Certainly has "The Godfather" on its mind, but its utter lack of sentimentality and romance are a welcome corrective to Coppola's ambivalency.
This is a powerful and ambitious sequel.
