Review of Election 2 (2006) by Wei W — 19 Jul 2008
If the first film shows us how two major opponents play the game to win the seat, the second one shows us how the game plays the opponents. Unlike the film film where it contains some black comedy moments, the threat of violence in the second one is seen everywhere.
And unlike the first film, where it went with a bang to the head (literally), the second one ends by creeping in your skin with its eventual resolution. There are many metaphors and themes that are more explored in here than say in the first one, but without the first one, there won't be a backstory as to how these characters come to be in the second one.
once again Jonnie To gave us one of the best HK films in the year it was released.
