Review of Election (1999) by Conor M — 15 Sep 2008
A smart, funny, and sordid look at the corrupt world of high school student council elections. Alexander Payne effectively satirizes high school life but also politics in general, and I never noticed most of the visual motifs he painstakingly puts in almost every shot.
Reese Witherspoon gives a perfect performance, along with some very funny work by Matthew Broderick and Chris Klein. Overall, this has to rank among the most clever , most effective, and funniest high school movies ever made.
