Review of Election (1999) by Marybeth F — 15 Jan 2009
After watching this twice, I came to this:
This film is nothing special. The acting, at first glance seems funny, but a further examination may display that it is just poor acting (except for Klein's portrayal of an awkward, oblivious jock kid). The story itself is apparently adapted from a story or book...and I shudder to think of how dry reading that would be if watching this was not a treat. If my HS film teacher hadn't given me this to watch (an shown it to his class during the election) I probably never would have watched it or know of it's existence. Why this film achieved cult status is beyond me.
On the plus side, it is not an atrocious film, as I did not shut it off either time I watched it. However, the film does not boast anything special about it that would make it stand out on a video store shelf and make you want to see it over the film next to it.
