Review of Elaine Stritch: Shoot Me (2013) by Elizabeth M — 16 Mar 2014
Let me be honest: even a single star is too much for this movie. The film itself was not interesting, and the subject was less than interesting. Stritch is a narcissist. She is not funny, does not have a good voice, is not nice, not witty, not deep, not a part of anybody else's interesting history, or even a character for or of her times.
I cannot imagine who this movie would appeal to, or who Elaine Stritch would appeal to. There are no "great moments" in her career, and there is nothing "riveting" about this story, and the only essential truths it illustrates are that "the industry" is full of suck-ups and liars, and that we are indeed all heading toward our own deaths.
To pretend that she is doing it more gracefully, or even with more vigor than others is an insult to those who are going or who have gone with real grace, dignity and vigor. Don't buy it!
