Review of El Topo (1970) by Jon H — 14 Sep 2007
Less violent than I expected, but a better drama than I expected. The directing really reminded me of Sergio Leone, and I love watching Jodorowsky's strong influence of the silent film era go to work here.
This is typically bizarre and loaded with religious symbolism, and it's extremely well-executed. The dialogue and music are impeccable, and this movie caught me off-guard by, despite being a grindhouse movie in essence, being extremely emotional and having great characters.
It's also amazing that Jodorowsky's son plays El Topo's (Alexandro himself) son.
