Review of El Topo (1970) by Tasha W — 05 Dec 2007
It's clear why this started out as a midnight movie. Fifteen mins in I had to stop and ask myself if maybe I had dropped acid earlier that evening and somehow forgotten. The second half of the film was a lot more coherent than the first.
..I know it's supposed to be riddled with religious symbolism and imagery, but the plot was so disjointed, and frankly just too damn weird to find any kind of intended meaning without doing some research.
If you're a fan of dwarves, amputees, and monks being whipped with cacti...then this is the movie for you! :).
