Review of El Topo (1970) by Edgar C — 13 Dec 2008
At some moments, you can tell Alejandro Jodorowsky didn't know what the hell he was doing (he's practically said it himself). You can tell it was made by a young mind, and is indeed rife with gratuitous content.
But it starts getting good near the end, when the message becomes clear, and the symbolism can easily snatch a tear from your eyes. Formerly a crowd-pleaser, now an obscure icon, El Topo is all that everyone will always said it is, and even a tad more.
