Review of El Topo (1970) by Jason R — 22 Dec 2009
El Topo is a crazy, great looking, art-house film full of violence, metaphors, and symbolism. The first ten minutes of the movie starts out with El Topo and his naked seven year old son (the director and his real son) burying a picture of the boy's mother, the son then kills a man in a massacred village, and El Topo and his son are faced by bandits--one with a shoe fetish and another making out with a picture of a woman drawn with nuts.
..and after that it starts to get weird. The movie has a big cult following with lots of famous fans. It is worth seeing for the strangeness and great cinematography alone.
