Review of El Topo (1970) by Jonathan K — 15 Dec 2010
I recognize that giving this less than 4 stars is some sort of abomination to the film industry; the only thing that kept me from giving it 1 star is that it strangely is stuck in my gut and the residual is not easily discarded.
i'm not arty enough to get this film, or even like it, but I recognize it's aesthetic prowess. El Topo is a vivid and expressively shot film but lacks allegorical cohesiveness to strike a deeper chord.
the meaning of the varied religious philosophies are lost without a definition as to what is what.
