Review of El Topo (1970) by Harpreet S — 04 Jul 2011
This is one of those movies that will require multiple watches to completely catch every piece of symbolism.
Alejandro Jodorowsky creates an amazingly bizarre western about a man in black who gives up his son, falls in love, hunts and kills seven masters, dies, gets resurrected and saves a cave village.
And yet so much more happens in this film, it's hard to say everything. At heart it is a western with heavy religious tones.
If I had been sober when I watched this film I don't know if I would have picked up as much as I did.
