Review of El Topo (1970) by Paul P — 17 Dec 2011
By encompassing all religions and taking bits and pieces from all of them the film ends up meaning nothing. And like everyone says the film is full of metaphors but you have no clue what they mean. While 'El Topo' is bloody and violent as all hell it lacks a visceral charge to it.
The events lack any sort of impact which makes the film go right over your head. Some sections you have fun with due to feeling that your watching pure midnight style cinema but even those stretches are few and far between.
