Review of El Mariachi (1993) by Akshay S — 25 May 2008
Before there was 'Desperado' and 'Once upon a time in Mexico' there was 'El Mariachi'. A little know Mexican film which is one of Rodriguez's first, turned out to be a decent watch.
The minuscule budget for the film is evident and that compromises the flair of the movie, but it has something that its sequels do not. The style of movie making is raw and neat and the low budget perhaps helped it gain a small town charm.
Rodriguez keeps it simple and there are some good shots. I felt it lacked a lil identity and the end was disappointing. Not a must watch but it was entertaining.
