Review of El Mariachi (1993) by Daniel B — 26 Sep 2008
I must have spoiled myself because I'd seen Desperado first and I knew later that this was the actual first movie in the trilogy, but this and Desperado felt like the same movie to me; I almost thought Desperado was a remake of El Mariachi in fact. If I'd watched them in order and not after years of seeing the other, I'm sure it'd have been more fluid for me to process.
Gotta give Robert Rodriguez props for making a movie of such calibre for his first time, and he was only 23 or so I believe at the time of directing - same as me - and I'm in awe at what he's accomplished.
