Review of El Mariachi (1993) by Rajneel S — 26 Apr 2009
Watchable, but strangely stilted and pensively weird, feature film short for a mere $7,000US (in 1992) is a seminal, must-watch for all post-modern young filmmakers and wannabes and a subversively weird experience for everyone else.
There is production value mixed with cheesy plottings and amateur actors, but more than anything this oddball taste of foreign, but not alien (to American audiences) cinema can be an acceptable distraction for anyone who has the time and patience for it.
Young filmmakers - you must rent and watch the DVD of this film in its entirety. Over-rated, but eye-opening given how it was made.
