El Mariachi is a movie that critics seem to love but, I honestly didn't like it that much. This is Robert Rodriguez's first movie and I like his movies but, I wasn't a fan of El Mariachi.

El Mariachi is about a mexican guitar player who goes town to town looking for gigs. Azul, a hitman, who is on the run from gangsters is also stopping by in the same town and this leads to confusion amoung the gangsters because they are both dressed a like. The drug dealers start trying to hunt down the guitar player thinking he is Azul.

A lot of the reason this movie got critical aclaim was due to the budget being only $7,000 and it is truly amazing what these guys did with only $7,000 but, I judge movies based on their entertainment value. I don't care if the movie took $10,000,000,000 dollars to produce or if it took nothing to make. If it is entertaining than it is good if it isn't then it's bad. Simple as that. It just kind of bored me but, it did have its moments. Some of the fight scenes were good and the movie often had funny dailogue. The mariachi music was also cool. It just wasn't constantly entertaining mostly because of bad acting.

The movie is completely in Spanish but, that isn't why I didn't like it and the low budget specail effects didn't bother me either because they were mostly done good, although the gun shots sounded too loud and fake. I think what got me was it seemed to long because of long peroids of nothing happening even though the movie is only 81 minutes long.
