Review of El Mariachi (1993) by Brett A — 06 Jul 2011
Simple, stylish and massively entertaining. Rodriguez's $7,000 take on mobsters and mistaken identity offers a pleasing blend of action, suspense, comedy and cartoon-like violence. 'El Mariachi' suffers from endless goofs and continuity errors, yet is easily redeemed by its enchanting energy, fluid editing and phenomenal entertainment value.
With terrific pace and excellent cinematography, Rodriguez's charming forerunner to 'Desperado' is inventive, low-budget action at its very best.
