Review of El Mariachi (1993) by Claudia G — 24 Jul 2012
When looking at this movie, one must know the gems behind its creation rather than analyze Rodriguez' final product. As his debut feature, Robert Rodriguez made this film on a peanut budget of $7,000.
He enlisted his friends to help him and hired inexperienced actors to bring out the genuine quality of the characters and setting of the story. Its a testament to the DIY film maker and how you don't need flash and cash to make a great film.
.. but simply passion and dedication blended with a touch of artistic creativity. A simple story with simple materials, its how much was done with so little that makes this film a lesson in film making all on its own.
