Unfortunately sparked off a genre that rots at the core of Hollywood mainstream where some dreadful titles came in the form of films such as Troy and Kingdom of Heaven. Loads of fighting with loads of money.
El Cid, however, is a much more powerful and better sought title with both an excellent leading man and director.
