Review of El Cantante (2006) by Roberto L — 05 Dec 2007
Alquile al DVD, esperando lo peor. But the music is so fantastic, the production values so high, Leon Ichaso's direction and understanding of the NYC and PR settings so spot-on, that I found myself enjoying it right to the end.
Marc Anthony's performance was surprisingly good (although he had to play chemically impaired for most of it), and his singing was topnotch. Even JLo's take on the erratic Puchi was, I thought, valid and well done; this is a far cry from Selena! Supporting cast (most of whom were playing real people) also helped make this difficult story believable and moving.
