Review of El Cantante (2006) by Kyle W — 24 Dec 2007
El cantante could have been great but it just didn't bring the heat it should of generated out of a salsa film. I must say, marc anthony played a great hector lavoe. he was very powerful and influential in this role.
however the rest of the movie lacked any sort of greatness. jennifer lopez was gaudy and hard to watch. she needs to stick to romantic comedies because anytime she gets mad in a film I just laugh. shes that bad.
what was with the interviews? did we need the wife perspectives throughout the film. put one at the start and one at the end. don't make the film one complete mess. and the editing was horrific. they couldn't rest on one time period.
I understand that this was the idea they were going for. but you jumped around way to much to ever set down a foundation or plot to get the audience involved. film should have been better cast and worked on by someone other than 2 latin singers whos careers are washed up.
took you guys 3 years to make this, should of worked on it another 3, you could of made a masterpiece. my advice...pick up the soundtrack. can't go wrong there.
