Review of Eighth Grade (2018) by Elizabeth L — 12 Aug 2018
Highly recommend this poignant film that I saw with my 15-year-old son. It captures the agnonizingly awkward stage that we all went through so beautifully and shows how being a nice person doesn't get you very far in the typical middle school environment. See this movie with your kids. We're teetering on a decision to put our younger child in a screen-free Waldorf school, and seeing Eighth Grade may have tipped the balance in favor of doing so. It shows how the virtual world is a parallel environment for kids, and with an adolescent sense of self it's almost too much to handle. Excellent acting, and the kids looked the age of the characters they were playing. Her father was so sweet, and their relationship reminded me of the importance and value of a supportive and loving parent.
even though they will inevitably be a source of great embarassment to their teens. Every parent needs to see this film.
