Review of Eight Days a Week (1997) by Timothy G — 14 Dec 2007
This is one of those great, "Let's pull this out of the vault for the insomniacs and sexually frustrated kids" movies that Comedy Central runs at one in the morning. It's cute, quirky, and yeah, it may try a bit hard to BE cute and quirky, but I still really like it and it makes me relish my summer vacations.
..the ones I have left, at least. It's not the next American classic movie, but I give plenty of credit to a movie that is different, and for a summer teen sex movie, I think it is pretty unique. Basically, this nerdy boy (Peter) stands outside his longtime love interest's window (the lovely Keri Russell as Erica) the entire summer before she goes away to college.
His obstacles are that he's a nerd and that she has a jerky boyfriend Nick. His sunlight daydreams and eccentric neighbors are quite fun, and honestly? I like rooting for the boys born without the asshole gene, as Peter would say it.
