Review of Eight Below (2006) by Nathan L — 26 Aug 2012
Eight Below is the Homeward Bound of the 2000s. I wasn't expecting much, but it did strike a cord with me and I have to admit I really liked it. Although there are sad moments, there are inspiring moments as well especially if you have a love for dogs. The storyline is simple but tells a great story of survival that's based on true events. The movie is also filmed beautifully. Most scenes take place in gorgeous settings and the dog training was as impressive as I've seen.
The biggest downside for me was that the film was too long. The movie spans exactly 2 hours, but given the relatively basic storyline it could have saved at least 30 minutes. The acting wasn't anything to ride home about, but it also didn't kill the movie.
Overall, I was surprised how much I enjoyed Eight Below and I would recommend it to anyone who is a dog lover.
