Review of Effie Gray (2014) by Frances H — 02 Sep 2017
A film that has a very moody, brooding air and a screenplay with a very understated amount of dialogue that gets to you after a while, making for awkward moments, but then they are probably meant to be, since the relationship between Rusking and his wife was very awkward.
Ruskin was probably heavily into the Victorian quandary of considering sex too dirty to pursue with a "pure and innocent" wife, which he later wrote of in his "Sesame and Lilies." A great cast.
Could have been a somewhat better film.
