Review of Edward Scissorhands (1990) by Niloo R — 11 Nov 2012
This is probably my favourite tim burton film - I think it really shows what he's about without going overboard into his "style". I think every stylistic choice or quirk is relevant as long as it serves a larger purpose in the story, and tim burton's later films I find often sacrifice content for style.
this film however, is burton at his best, because his stylistic choices, while still innovative on their own, inform the content and thematic core of the film. I think this movie is great because it's got great heart, it's so fun to watch and it says something about the world.
johnny depp is to die for in this role and somehow still manages to be hot as hell. this is exactly what a "light" film should be - entertaining, yet still meaningful.
