Review of Edward Scissorhands (1990) by Meredith W — 27 Nov 2012
There is no such thing as a perfect movie, but every so often, one or a few movies come along that come pretty damn close. For me, this is one of those movies. In fact, I count this among my very favorite films of all time.
There is almost nothing about this movie that I would have be different. This is probably Tim Burton's most personal film, save perhaps Frankenweenie, and the result is a simple yet touching fable about the need and desire to belong centered around one of the most sympathetic, likable and tragic characters ever committed to film played with astonishing sincerity by Johnny Depp.
The visuals in this film (the production design, cinematography, etc.) are about as close to perfect as it gets. And Danny Elfman's musical score lends itself perfectly to this whimsical sad fairy tale.
