Review of Edward Scissorhands (1990) by Man Cole P — 31 Jul 2013
While the love story leaves something to be desired and Winona Ryder's old lady impersonation is distracting, Edward Scissorhands still finds a way to sparkle. The set designs are brilliant in the way they make the world of suburbia more grotesque and strange than the peculiar laboratory of the inventor, and the characters, though many are over the top, play well together in this satirical yet touching fantasy. However, the best part of the film is its titular protagonist. Johnny Depp is at his best as the shy Edward, and you can't help but want him to fit in and find happiness in a place where he clearly does not belong. Oh and one last thing, Danny Elfman's score is fabulous.
Grade: B+.
