A masterpiece. A classic. What an amazing movie.

Tim Burton is so rarely disappointing, and so often enthralling, Edward Scissorhands being in the latter category. One of Johnny Depp's signature roles, is every comical goth's dream movie, which revolves around the non-human creation of a reclusive inventor, named Edward who, one piece at a time is transformed from machinery to living fake human. Yet in what must be the saddest scene in the whole film, the inventor (Vincent Price) collapses right in front of Edward (Depp) and passes away. Though Edward, not yet educated on everything that goes on in society and the life of a human, doesn't know what has happened and doesn't think anything is wrong. What must be many years later, a door-to-door cosmetics seller named Peg(Diane Wiest) decides to try out the mansion on top of the hill which Edward resides after having no luck selling anything to the locals. There she finds Edward in the shadows, still as unsure of what his situation is and is taken back to her home to be cared for.

The locals find out about Peg's secret guest and gossip around, desperate to meet the stranger. After several barbecues and jobs for Edward (some of the hedge-trimming and hair-cut scenes are hilarious), Peg's daughter Kim (Winona Rider) arrives home from a trip with friends in the middle of the night to find a pale stranger with sharp glinting claws in her bed.

The scene I just mentioned was one of the funniest set-ups I have ever seen and I started thinking about what it would be like to live through that particular experience, and decided that I would be screaming louder than a banshee, let alone Kim.

Mixing smart comic humour with touching emotional performances, Edward Scissorhands is a fantastic drama/comedy, which is seemingly realistic for such a high-flying fantasy.

Great performances, inspiring score from Danny Elfman and superb direction (art and technical), Edward Scissorhands is another Tim Burton triumph.
