Review of EDtv (1999) by Guido S — 03 Mar 2014
A cable channel has dwindling ratings, so it decides to start up a reality tv show where it follows someone 24/7. Matthew McConaughey happens to be the guy and initially makes them regret it for his lewd behavior, but the ratings skyrocket.
He wants out eventually, but his contract doesn't allow him to do that. So he finds a way to get back at the company by exposing their secrets. Came out around the same time as a very similar Truman Show, but not as good in my opinion.
It goes for more of a heartfelt story by the end, but it just didn't work. Nice to see McConaughey and Harrison working together, as they would later again team up for True Detective.
