Review of Edge of Tomorrow (2014) by Hawk _ — 27 Mar 2015

This movie reminds me a bit of Starship Troopers: while that film was ridiculously campy, Edge of Tomorrow plays the whole scenario rather straightforward. The twist here is that it's also got a Groundhogs Day thing going on where whenever Cruises character gets killed he wakes up on the previous day only to repeat the mission over again.

This is handled rather smartly and plays into overall mythology of the world quite nicely. The film also handles this in a way that respects the viewers intelligence, only a few sequences are ever actually played over again thus making the movie feel much more epic than it would otherwise.

One of the best of 2014.
