After reading the outpouring of praise for this movie since it false started at the box office, to say I had high hopes for it would be an understatement. So my first question going in was "is it any good?" Thankfully, yes, it is very good. It is an accessible action sci-fi with great performances, smart world-building and plenty of humor to spare. It runs with its "Groundhog Day" premise without feeling like a rip-off, using the internal logic of its world to explain it effectively. The entire cast kill in their rolls from Tom Cruise shouldering an action film in "Top Gun" form yet again, to Bill Paxton's hammy cameo to Emily Blunt's machismo "Full Metal Bitch" (as an aside: I've never liked Emily Blunt's performance in any role until this film).

Where does "Live Die Repeat" fumble though? Mostly in the ludicrousness of its alien invaders and their unconvincing CGI. Though their powers and biological hierarchy are what moves the plot forward, it never stops feeling implausibly thin. But if you can get that out of your head and ignore the VFX that resemble PlayStation 2 graphics, you'll have an awesome time. 8.1/10.
