"My daughter was Emma Craven. I'm a guy with nothing to lose.".

A single father and veteran homicide detective for the Boston Police Department, Thomas Craven leads on a solitary search for answers behind the secret life of his 24-year-old daughter after she was murdered on the steps of his home even though everyone assumes that he was the target. Some memories never fade away, which explains how the voices of Emma pop up as thoughts for a man who is emotionally confused but also redeemed for a cause not to be given up. His greatest enemies to face? A world full of corporate cover-ups, government collusion, and murder, as well as a shadowy government operative who has been sent in to clean up the evidence.

Based on the original BBC miniseries, 'Edge Of Darkness' is a very emotionally charged thriller in which not only that the idea of losing the only offspring is contrary to nature but that some secrets of the one closest to you has taken you further to the edge with such drastic action. Scenes of the action are graphic in nature but its filming was done in its finest quality, and the setting of Massachusetts is seemingly perfect to shoot for its urban scenery, especially in Boston. Mel Gibson does his leading performance of a character so still that even his emotional issues here were greatly explored, and even Bojana Novakovic plays a daughter so pretty that she only has had little screen time only to be cut short by fate. For Ray Winstone's Jedburgh character he is so mysterious and dangerous and as the man in charge of all power at Northmore that his personality makes him a perfect villain here.

Overall, I can say that 'Edge Of Darkness' is a great tale of vengeance that really drives up the action while livening up to its thriller genre and taking the stress out of a odyssey transformed by personal loss. I recommend it to fans of Mel Gibson and crime thriller movies. Only one viewing can discover you that a man's feelings would never change after the first several minutes or so.
