Review of Edge of Darkness (2010) by Ahmed " — 01 Jan 2011
A well crafted action thriller that features a comeback from one of my favorite actors. It`s been a while since I went to theaters to watch a Mel Gibson film (I ,of course, mean see him in front of the camera not behind it) so the movie was a blast for me even before watching it considering that films like the Lethal Weapon series and Braveheart were from the reasons I cared for cinema on the first place.
Anyway, "Edge of Darkness" as a whole turned out to be an interesting experience, it is maybe slow paced but still offers a great deal of suspense, and the action scenes were wonderfully exceuted.
The plot was not complex as I though it would be and was quite predictable but the dark atmosphere made by the director, Martin Campbell (Casino Royale), using low key lighting scheme and slightly tight frames made the ride enjoyable and intriuging.
Gibson delivers a strong performance as the avenging father, not the grieving father, I liked the fact that he did not waste his time, and ours, to cry over his daughter`s body but started his investigation right away to keep his mind away from her death and have his vengenace.
Check out for a stunning performance by Ray Winstone as an intelligence veteran who is hired to make crimes unsolvable. An interesting crime thriller and clearly one of the year`s best.
