Review of Edge of Darkness (2010) by Alec G — 05 Jan 2011
Director Campbell takes a mini series which he directed back in the eighties and gives gloss rebuff treatment really well, Taut, tense and emotionally charged throughout this movie explores which other similar movies prior to it but really well just how far would one be willing to go to ensure justice is done especially when the crime has been inflicted upon oneself.
With it's underlying political message towards weapons of mass destruction, it's bitter sweet flash back moments of when Gibsons daughter was just a girl which lets the audience know that his mind is starting to collapse and his loss killing him inside, this movie does it's best to steer off cliches and corny one liners but there is places where similar direlogue is inevitable.
The movie excels at raw grittiness, Tension and Graphic yet factual violence it also explores about how can a parent/s go on through life knowing that their offspring will not be around to bury them when it is time to leave the world.
This is Gibsons first acting role in a good few years but still shows he has what it takes to portray a jaded, grieving and mentally fractured individual who is looking to find answers which he is entitled to, Danny Huston as always shows his qualities as a villain and this is no exception.
It's not original by far for sure but when it comes to a vengence driven search for justice at all costs story, this restores anyones faith in classic slueth orientated dramas of a by gone era.
