Review of Edge of Darkness (1943) by Cade H — 16 Dec 2011
Edge of Darkness had some potential but never really hit on all cylinders. They tried to make this a dark, revenge film about a father (Mel Gibson) watching his daughter get killed right in front of him.
While it was rather dark and gruesome I never really felt the deep seeded revenge he set out to get. They also attempted to make it sad and heartbreaking but Mel did not make it believable and there was nothing remotely sad about it.
There were some pretty cool moments here and there but they were lost behind a lot of talk, conspiracy and other stuff that was fairly boring. The idea was good but the director did not carry it out in the best way possible.
If you like Gibson you may enjoy it but otherwise it is one you should skip out on.
