Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Liz — 27 Dec 2011
The performances (notably a pre-fame Michael Fassbender) make this film worthy of the praise it has come to swelter in; besides this, there are the completely and maddeningly regular undertones of a "look-at-your-generation" shocker flick. Within the plot, James Watkin's directorial style and the almost ominously good cast were the seeds of a well above average horror film, but instead we were given this "bloody struggle for survival" with a very monotone struggle for my eyes to stay open during the climactic sequences and the entire resolution.
Highly suggested for any horror fan, but not a cup of tea all film lovers would like to sip from. Still worth it for Fassbender's performance and-- because I'm a teenage girl, I can say this without embarrassment-- his really fantastic abs and perfectly charming (yet still very down-to-earth) good looks.
