Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Ola G — 17 Sep 2009
Stephen (Michael Fassbender) invites his beautiful girlfriend, the kindergarten teacher Jenny (Kelly Reilly), to spend the weekend at Eden Lake, a stunning and remote place in the woods. Stephens intention is to propose to Jenny while in this gorgeous.
Environment. However, their idyllic moment is disturbed by a gang of teenagers led by the bully Brett. The situation spirals out of control and soon enough Stephen and Jenny are fighting for their lives.
"Eden Lake" is carried by Fassbender and Reilly, but the teenagers are putting on a pretty good performance as well. The storyline is not unique, but "Eden Lake" still has some interesting twists. I felt though that there was a distance between me and the movie. I became "just" the viewer despite the horrifying actions taking place before my eyes. I liked "Eden Lake" in one way, but at the same time it passed my brain without making any specific marks. And horror movies are not really my thing. I do think Fassbender is man for the future of the industry, and Kelly Reilly is... well, she is a sight for sore eyes. Liked her since I saw "The Spanish Apartment" in 2002. She is a woman for the future of the industry.
