Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Sam W — 17 Jun 2011
A couple on a vacation goes camping at a lake front. What ensues is a struggle for survival after they have a run-in with a gang of evil kids. This is really one of the better horror films to come out over the past few years for one reason in particular, the characters.
The couple, Michael Fassbender and Kelly Reilly both do a fantastic job in this film. It takes its time and really lets the audience into their relationship. Eden Lake also manages to keep a high level of tension throughout the film.
The director does not glorify the violence, like so many other films these days. He really values the lives; Its not about the body count or the gore but just the true horror of the situation. This is a gritty, brutal film.
Jack O'Connell, The leader of the kids is perfect, he is just downright frightening. I have seen him play similar roles in other english films like Made in Britain or Harry Brown, but this one is on a whole other level of evil.
