Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Calvin R — 13 Apr 2012
Eden Lake is a British horror film that is terrifying intense, smart, well-written, good direction, and despite of its cliches, Eden Lake stays true to its horror roots.
A romantic weekend in the woods that turns into a bloody struggle for survival, the story was cliched and simple, but the execution was great. Kelly Reilly and Michael Fassbender do an excellent performance, I have never seen a unknown actress or actor (well to me) do an outstanding job. Much like other British horror films.
Gory? Fortunately its much like a grisly blood thrill, so not a whole lot of gore; which, to me its refreshing that a horror film can go without excessive gore, and still be great. Brilliant.
Not going to spoil it, but I am going to say this, Eden Lake is very much a brutal terrifying cinema and a struggle for survival; which had me glued to the screen. Thanks to its dark atmosphere and non-predictability. I say it was a bloody hell of a intense thrill ride.
