Review of Eden Lake (2008) by Travis N — 06 Jul 2012
This movie starts off setting a menacing tone that immediately makes me extremely nervous for the protagonists/victims. Eden Lake, much like the remake of Straw Dogs starring James Marsden, features antagonists that are angry, ignorant and mean to the point of crossing over to evil in the biblical sense of the word.
This combined with their equally ignorant friends and weapons makes a frightening powerful situation for their overwhelmed victims. Eden Lake builds on this character conflict situation with each scene leading to a darker and darker place that makes you want to either run or turn off the TV. I could barley watch this movie and the end is still disturbing me hours later. Highly recommend for folks who are more scared by monsters that actually exist in our world than ghosts or goblins.
